Living Life Before the Baby

Dana’s baby bump is getting bigger. Baby Foltice is very active. There is not much room in there and Dana feels stretched out. We can feel the hard spot on Dana’s stomach, but do not know if it’s his butt or his head. Just like his Papa.

Week 30 (above)
Week 31 (right)

We are really trying to enjoy life before the baby comes and changes things (for the better, of course.) Speaking of which, everybody we talk to about having a new born (except for Jason and Lindsey, who are nothing but positive) goes on and on about the trials and hardships of having a child, and at the end of all of the harrowing tales say, “but it’s all worth it.” Maybe we will know what that means when it happens to us.

Here are some highlights of a typical week before the baby:

Monday night- Deutsche Bank basketball league. I sucked so bad in our first game. To top it off, I hurt my foot. I have iced it down every night this week. The only good news is that now I don’t have to read about how poorly I played the next day in the newspaper.

Wednesday night- Trivia night. We took 1st place last week for the first time in a while. I told the group that we will need to wear the same clothes, drink the same drink, and eat the exact same food the next time. They laughed. I wasn’t joking.

Friday night- usually watch a movie and go to bed early (either during or sometime after the Soup at 10…chicks, man.)

The movie didn’t work out last week after Dana hi-jacked our Netflix queue. I was mortified to see Twilight in our mailbox and boycotted watching it all of last weekend. We are back on track this week watching Season 1 of the Flight of the Conchords.

Hockey playoffs are in full swing. If you are a sucker for ridicule, try calling some bar & grills in the Jacksonville area asking if they are going to show tonight’s hockey playoff game. They will tell you that unless it has something to do with college football or NASCAR, it will not be on.

You might be in the south when you find Labatt’s Blue in the Exotic Imported Beer section.

I hope all three of you who read this have a great weekend.

Getting Ready for Baby Foltice!

With Baby Foltice on his way, we have been spending our spare time preparing for his arrival. Last weekend, that entailed a trip to Jo-Ann's (the fabric store) to buy stuff for his room. We went there Saturday night after church. Lets recap our Saturday night; church and Jo-Ann's. I spent the rest of the weekend trying to figure what lie I will say if someone were to ask me, 'what did you do this past weekend?'

Michigan State made a great run to the National Championship only to get humiliated by North Carolina. I did beat Dana in the overall bracket (legitimately) for the first time in four years. Here are the before and after pics from last Monday night (National Championship night.)

And after...

Special thanks to Oscar who posed in a Tarheeled colored shirt and played dead while I stepped on him.

Does anyone have ideas for pictures on the wall of the baby's bedroom? So far, we have framed pictures of my college basketball days in the room (I wish that were a joke.) I wanted posters of Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.

Have a great weekend and we'll provide a new update soon.

The Countdown Begins ... 10 Weeks to Go!

Yikes! I can't believe that there are only 10 more weeks left and then Baby Boy Foltice will be here (if he doesn't arrive sooner than that). This has gone by really fast. We just had a checkup yesterday and the baby is really healthy and has a strong heartbeat. I am in good health too and things seem to be going pretty smooth.

Every day Oscar seems to want to check in on the baby too - he joins me on the couch and either puts his paw or ear up to my belly. Baby seems to know he's there and he kicks him. It's weird - hopefully those two will like each other this much when he finally arrives.

We bought furniture at a garage sale for the baby's room and Bryan spent an afternoon assembling the crib and moving everything around until I was satisfied with the layout. I, of course, did not do any heavy lifting or moving because of my "delicate condition." Good thing Bryan has been working out consistently for the past year - the furniture we bought was solid oak. Here is a pic of Bryan putting the crib together.

Here are some updated photos from the past weeks. I look like I'm smuggling a beach ball under my clothes.

Final Four Baby!

This is the time of the year when we backslide from going to church on Saturday night. We've noticed that church attendance for the 'Super Saturday' night service is pretty sparse during the college football season. Even our head pastor is 'out of town' nearly every LSU night game. Well, college basketball for us northerners is the same as college football for most southerners.

So, needless to say, I am pretty happy about Michigan State's run to the Final Four. And, needless to say, we will be skipping church this week Saturday night (but will go Sunday morning.) Goran Suton used to be my curse word; not after last weekend.

Foltice bracket update:
Bryan 93 pts (including 15 out of 16 Sweet Sixteen teams)
Dana 79 pts

However, Dana can win the whole thing with a UCONN win over Michigan St. (16 points)

Sadly for me, we set the point totals beforehand. Otherwise, I could make the final games worth 5 or 6 points each and clinch the win (a tactic used before until Dana caught on.)

My bracket was nearly identical to Barack Obama's, which gave me a great excuse to use my terrible Barack impression a couple of times. "I like UNC... in the final... over Louisville."

When the tourney is over, we will have two-three weeks of rest until NHL and NBA playoffs. Maybe Barack will grow a 'playoffs beard' with me this year.
